"History of otosclerosis"

About: Stafford Hospital

(as the patient),

I attended Stafford Hospital for a hearing test. There is a history of otosclerosis in the family and I was experiencing hearing loss.

I was in the clinic for less than 3 minutes and was told I had 20/20 hearing. I was unhappy as the time taken was so short and I felt 'fobbed off': (

I took a private hearing test at Boots. This was long and more in-depth. It was explained that the reason I couldn't hear was because my left ear was normal and my right ear hyper sensitive, so the background noise from my right ear was obscuring hearing from my left ear.

As both had been hyper sensitive, there was hearing loss in my left ear. I was told that this could be the otosclerosis and advices to have yearly checks.

Why didn't Stafford pick up on this?
