Having fallen in a supermarket and fractured my hip I was taken to Scunthorpe Hospital's A&E. The staff there were very busy, but also very efficient and the care I received in that department was beyond reproach - the doctor even apologised for the fact that I had injured myself to the extent that I would need to be admitted! From arrival at A&E to arrival on the ward via X-ray and other diagnostics didn't take that long - I think I was on the ward in just under three hours. My trip to theatre the next morning went well under the supervision of the consultant's team and following surgery I made a speedy recovery - aided by a caring staff with a sense of humour who laughed with me and encouraged me to do what I could to get mobile as soon as possible. The food was great, with a fantastic choice and there was plenty of it. I was discharged less than 72 hours after my fall, with everything in place to make my life as easy as possible for the next 6 weeks of non-weight bearing on my injured leg. Since this I have had 2 outpatient department appointments so far, with several more to come over the next 18 months or so. These required x-ray before seeing the orthopaedics team, but even allowing for this I was only in the building for about an hour - which compared with the previous hospital I had treatment at in Essex was fantastic, as there you would take out half a day at least just for a blood test! While I would have preferred not to have fallen thus necessitating this, from my experience I can only speak highly of every aspect of the care and treatments i have received from the hospital over the last 14 weeks.
