"Information given to patients"

About: Clayton Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

When my relative was seen at the day care unit at Clayton hospital the care was superb and also more impressive was all the tests pre op were done 5 days beforehand so this help with settling the patient in on the day and getting on with the op leaving the patient free to go home in the late afternoon. A lot of pre op information was provided in the form of written booklets so well done the Clayton day care unit all round!

Contrast that with the lack of care given to another relative early Jan 2006 in St James Leeds

again a day care patient but no leaflets no day care ward no pre op checks 5 days before instead she was rung on the day to come in after 16.00 and then on arrival no paperwork was awaiting her they didn't know what she was in for (for an old lady this is confusing to say the least) checks done that evening op next day recovery in a transitional ward with cancer patients all around and home at 16.00

(As an afterthought should someone who has gallstones and had a simple procedure and come round be offered an OMLETTE for lunch? I thought fatty foood should be avoided in this case
