"My mother with ovarian cancer ..."

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mother with ovarian cancer was treated by nice, professional people struggling against the system. Staff are trying hard.

What could be improved

Elderly patients need a lot of care and encouragement - assistance with eating, washing, going to the loo - all very time consuming, and the system doesn't have the capacity or perhaps the intention to deliver this kind of care. The staff are geared up to intervene rather than care.

Also, the communication and continuity of care between clinical staff was often lacking and my sister and I had to check medications and interventions often and ask a lot of questions to be clear what was going on. The initial history was taken half a dozen times by different clinicians, all writing their own version.
