"Appalling treatment"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

My elderly mother-in-law fell over four months ago, so we took her to Lister A&E where they said the shoulder was dislocated. They re-set it, and confirmed this with an Xray. We were concerned at the time that they hadn't checked her over thoroughly. Since then, she has been reviewed twice in the fracture clinic, without any detailed assessment. Today, on her third visit, they actually checked her and revealed that her shoulder was not properly re-set, and that it was even evident on the Xray taken by A&E. So many months on, it is apparently too late to fix this. She is no longer capable of independent living as a result of not one, not two, but three failures to spot this problem, and will now be in permanent pain. Disgusting. Avoid.

We're really sorry at the impact that these episodes of care at the Lister's emergency department has had on you and your mother-in-lwa, especially with her current situation. These very important matters need to be investigated and if you have not done so already, perhaps you would be willing to make a formal complaint so that this can happen. Just email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net and we can get everything started from there. Whilst we accept that such an investigation can't undo what's happened, but at the very least it can provide answers to your questions and make sure that your mother-in-law gets a full apology where mistakes are uncovered. Also lessons learnt can help stop someone else having a similar experience. We hope that you give us that chance.
