I was extremely disappointed with my visit to the a&e department today. Notwithstanding a 2 hour wait to see a nurse, following which I had to wait another 2 hours to see a doctor who said he agreed with the nurse that I should have an x-ray. This again prolonged my wait. In the meantime, the very small a&e department was very busy and I witnessed 4 patients brought in by the ambulance staff who were all queuing in the corridor. Where is the dignity and privacy? I overheard doctors and nurses confirming patient details as well as overhearing personal details of patients from the waiting area. After about 5 hours I asked how many doctors and consultants were on that shift; I was told that 'it is irrelevant' by a nurse. I have to say, this being my first visit to this hospital has really been an eye opener; I don't think these people have heard about the 'Francis Report', the data protection act; patient privacy or dignity. Absolutely appalled.
