I had an angioplasty performed in the day care centre. The angioplasty was done via my right wrist. Once the job was completed I was sat in a chair on the ward for a few hours with a plaster on my wrist and told not to remove the plaster for a couple of days. This I had done and all seemed well.
However 10 days later an abscess formed directly over the hole. To cut a long story short the abscess grew enormous and I had an aneurysm in the artuary. I was told this could have resulted in my death or the loss of my right lower arm.
Dr Gill operated on my arm, l was in hospital for four days and I am still unable to return to work as although I now have movement in my fingers and arm, the right thumb still does not bend properly. I have been off work since the beginning of March as I am a draughtsperson by trade and am unable to return to my profession.
I have only praise for Dr Gill, but like him I am furious to have had to go through such pain and inconvenience due to one surgeon not taking enough care in the first place.
