"Very Dissappointing"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

Anything else?

Took my wife to the A and E on Monday (1.15 am) as she was having a fever and seemed delirious. It was rather disheartening as I have previously visited the A and E on more than one occasion and found it outstanding. This time the nurses seemed more interested in chatting and typing than whatever was going on with patients. so much so that an elderly patient proclaimed loudly how he would rather go back home than deal with this to which a nurse replied, you can barely walk how do you think you will get to a taxi? Another elderly patient (placed on a bed in the corridor) kept asking for help with the nurses and doctors nearby ignoring her for close to 10 minutes till another patient says loudly " I think this woman needs some help". In our case after a two hour wait for a blood test we were finally taken to a bay with a bed ( no sheets or pillow). The nurses had no name tags or had them dangling on their waists where no one short of super (human) sight may read them. After feedback on the blood test we were taken for an x ray, on return there was no empty bay so we were out on the corridor till we left (after 6 am). The nurse came for some more blood and seemed to think the patient (my wife) was an unfeeling cadaver as she kept pushing and prodding with a frown. another nurse came to put up a drip and we asked her for a pillow. She said "I will try to find one .....if I remember". When a person who is ill would rather go home and deal with their illness themselves then you know the service is really bad.
