"I checked in with my 5 year old ..."

What I liked

I checked in with my 5 year old son into A&E for an emergency that resulted in a small operation:

From the start, all of the care providers were extremely responsive and sensitive to the fact that they were treating a little boy who was in pain and might be very scared. The anesthesiologist and nurses involved in the operation were very communicative and seemed to go out of their way to prepare myself and my child for the surgery as well as after.

What could be improved

I would have felt more comfortable with a consult from a more senior physician and/or one who specialised in paediatric urology. This concern of mine was brushed aside in a condescending way (although all other concerns were dealt with).

The nursing staff on the ward, although very responsive, were clearly understaffed.
