"Hospital Parking"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

Although my partner has received and is still receiving excellent hospital care at Russells Hall for pneumonia and other breathing difficulties i am very angry about the lack of information about car parking. I have been visiting twice a day for 2wks and am now into my 3rd week of visiting. So far this has cost me nearly £100 in parking fees. Today as i was leaving the hospital i was stopped by another visitor who has seen me visiting every day and pay at the parking machine and was asked why had i not purchased a weekly paid card at the cost of £15 for 7 days. Why is there no information in the hospital about this card and why do nurses who see you daily not ask how you are paying, i can understand they are busy but it only takes a few seconds to ask. I am a pensioner and this has made a huge dent in what little money i have. Regards Mrs W Very Angry Pensioner

Thank for taking the time to post your feedback. We are very pleased to hear that your partner has received and is receiving excellent care in our hospital. It is such a shame your positive experience has been affected by the fees you paid for parking.

You are correct in saying people who visit Russells Hall Hospital regularly are able to purchase a ‘Value Card’ which offers unlimited car parking for a fixed fee of £15 per seven day continuous period (plus a £6 refundable deposit).

Information on concessionary parking is advertised on our Trust website, for those with Internet access, and on posters outside every ward. However, these posters were removed for a short period time recently so that we could update the tariff details.

We do advise anyone wishing to participate in the concessionary parking scheme to speak to the nursing staff on the ward they are visiting but our ward staff are also expected to inform visitors of the value card scheme.

We would like to apologise for the fact that the nurses on the ward you visited did not do this. We have also emailed all our matrons and lead nurses to remind them to tell regular visitors about concessionary parking. Following your feedback, we have also planned to include a paragraph on our ‘Welcome to your ward’ leaflets which are given to each inpatient upon arrival.
