(as a parent/guardian),

We were sent a questionnaire to ask how our child is developing (3 to 4 year old) with a covering letter to say that the development is now not routinely monitored - what is the point? If my child wasn't developing correctly then I could easily lie to cover the fact, and as it isn't monitored anymore why keep records? This seems like a complete waste of time as the questions asked are limited, ie "can most people understand what your child says? " Would it not be better to send a leaflet out stating where your child's development is meant to be and if you have any concerns then contact the Health Visitor. I feel neither approach is the best as child who may need help could be stopped by their Parent/Guardian hiding behind incorrect answers.

It's not routinely monitored so let's save money and not bother. Or let's do it properly with correct intervention.

Thank you for taking the time to post a comment on the patient opinion website.

I note your concerns and hopefully the following response will offer you some clarity around the rationale for the 3-4 year questionnaire.

The intention of the questionnaire is to prompt parents to observe their child and determine that they are achieving key developmental milestones that are age appropriate.

It is not intended in any way to stop parents contacting the Health Visiting service if they have any concerns around their child’s development.

Similarly if concerns are noted on the questionnaire once returned to the Health Visiting team it will initiate a contact for a full developmental review.
