"It's a shame weaning classes are ending"

About: Locala Community Partnerships CIC / Health visiting

(as a parent/guardian),

I have recently had my second child and as she was 12 weeks old this week we attended the Baby weaning class at Howard Park in Cleckheaton. It was the second time I attended the session. I attended with my older daughter who is now 2 and a half. I chose to attend again as I know it is vital to be up to date on what should and shouldn't be done on weaning and just to check some facts.

Even though it was my second session, I still had some questions as I am breastfeeding this time as opposed to bottle feeding and we'll be going abroad just before my daughter is 6 months which may affect the weaning.

I was told this was the last session they will ever be running as everything will be going internet based. I think this is a real shame. I class myself as a reasonably intelligent person with a degree and I had questions and felt it was helpful to me. So I am sure other new mums in the future will be missing out on vital information on weaning their babies.

Thank you for your comment. The Locala Spenborough Health Visiting Team are really glad that you have found the weaning sessions useful. The health visiting team are now offering a home visit when baby is 12-16 weeks of age, the visit will address mums maternal mental health and discuss weaning. This will offer a more individualised service and reach more Mums and their babies.

The service is working towards additional support through internet based information which will be available at to help and advise parents/ carers at any time of day or night.
