"Excellent care for rotator cuff repair"

About: Nevill Hall Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was told to report to ward 3/1 at in mid-May under the care of Mr Nada.

My husband and I waited in the waiting room, then after about half an hour I was shown to my room by a very friendly lady who settled me in before my husband left.

At about 12.30pm a nurse asked if I would go for a shower before my op at 1.30. pm so I agreed and she picked up my belongings and we went to shower. She told me to call for assistance and she would come down to take me back safely to my room.

After I was settled in bed I started to get upset as I had never had an op before and all the staff were outstanding in comforting me. Eventually I had the anaesthetist come to see me prior to my op. He was also such a gent and he explained everything that would happen, also the reasons why

He asked did I have any concerns, and I told him about my needle phobia, he said that is not a problem as he had ordered cream to deaden my hands to lessen the pain.

Later a porter came to take me to theatre. He was also very sympathetic to me and talked to me all the time until we reached the theatre. I was then seen by Mr Nada whom may I say again was a perfect gent and reassured me all would be fine.

When I came around from my op, I was taken to ICU as a precaution due to my sleep apnoea just over night. Well, words cannot express how wonderful each and every one of the staff were, also the cleanliness of every department in this hospital was utterly exceptional. When in ICU the staff were making me drinks all through the night as I didn't sleep a wink due to the relief of the op being done, and apart from it being sore I was pain free, something I hadn't known for 3yrs.

The staff didn't stop all night until they had breakfast which again they included me. Staff made me coffee and toast, then when I said I would love a dish of porridge they rang the canteen and a porter brought me some down. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone and all the staff went over and above the call of duty.

At about 10am I was taken back up to ward 3/1 until the physio came to see me to explain how to do my exercises, that was very important for me to carry out to help my recovery. Sister then came to discharge me.

I can only compliment every one and every dept for being so caring and professional, also all were very clean and hand washing was very apparent in all depts.

In my opinion this hospital is the epitome of the NHS. Many thanks to all concerned in my care.
