"I gave birth in St Helier maternity ..."

About: St Helier Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I gave birth in St Helier maternity unit in August 2007 and it was fantastic. The midwives were great, the care was professional and helpful. I had the natural delivery i wanted (even though my first son was born via a c-section) mainly because i felt supported by my midwives to do so and my birthing partners. They helped me with breastfeeding and i was discharged promptly. So all in all, excellent unit, good midwives, clean and i would go back!

What could be improved

I think midiwives are probably quite busy sometimes and don't have enough time to spend with first time mums who are understandibly nervous and anxious. Maybe if they explained in their antenatal classes what midwives are there to do and what your birthing partners and family should be helping you with. That way they could manage expectations of some women better.
