Anything else?
I had to attend to gate 40 at 12 noon, after not eating or drinking for a couple of hours. I was really worried about having an injection in my mouth, it didn't worry me that I was having sedation, it was just the injection in my mouth I was bothered about.. Once I was on the ward, I was called and the nurse was lovely explaining what was going to happen, who I needed to see, she put on my red band, checked blood pressure, measured me ankle, showed me where to get changed into my gown and some brilliant coloured flight socks in bottle green. I went round to the room, where the needle is put in the back of my hand, and wheeled through to operation room the staff were so caring and understood my fear, from the consultant downwards. I don't remember opening my mouth or closing it, don't remember the injection in my mouth, but my mouth was numb like when you go to the dentist. The consultant looked at my mouth in the recovery room, it was bleeding so he put a wad of gauze and told me to keep in my mouth. The nurse was checking blood pressure. The Doctor came and had another look at my mouth, it had stopped bleeding. I was took round to get a cuppa of tea and had to drink it with a straw. By the time I had drunk my tea I was ready to get dressed, and go home. The nurse rang my partner to let him know I was ready, you have to have a adult to take you home so you are safe, and you are advised to rest for the remainder of the day. My partner arrived, once home I had a cup of tea and slept for about 2 hours. Its a week since I was done on the 7th May, the stitches have dissolved and the soreness has about gone. You do get told to drink salt water to help you not pick up an infection. I want to thank all the staff who were on duty on the 7th May, I felt welcomed and all of you was so caring, made sure I kept my dignity. I would tell all my family not to worry about going in, like I did, because really I had nothing to worry about at all, the nurses gave a service with a smile. Thank you so Much Audrey Naylor.
