"My mother's experiences at Tameside General"

About: Tameside General Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

I have been relayed these issues by my Mother that attended Tameside Hospital Medical Assesment Unit.

I was told that a nurse was seen tapping and telling patients not to touch (even though didn't touch) the medical diagnostic equipment. That was in real terms said to be faulty.

A Dr when told of my mother's medical condition said that it was another made up condition that we'd read on the internet.

A nurse was seen tugging and shouting at an elderly patient asking her to do something.

An alarming situation that she saw was a patient who was near enough sent down to the operating theatre with the wrong medical notes. Though, stopped at the last moment. The Dr was overhead saying they had not checked the medical records, and then asked the patient to pace on a treadmill machine for a supposed check of a heart bypass issue. That, I think, would have been life threatening.

It was also found that in my mother's case, papers or computer records were lost or excessively delayed.

I have also found that on the Tameside Hospital website, the Board members doesn't provide any contact details to ask for these people to be reached and these issues to be corrected.

Also PALS, in my mother's case, weren't able to provide any fast help to answers of lack of care or a report that could be written accurately.

I am sorry that your mother’s experience on the Medical Assessment Unit appears to be far from what we aspire to at Tameside General Hospital

Please contact the complaints team on 0161 922 6025 should you wish me to investigate your mother’s concerns further.

Thank you for sharing your mothers experience via the Patient Opinion website.

Kind regards

John Goodenough

Director of Nursing

Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
