I recently wrote the hospital a glowing report or our stay on a ward, this felt significant as years back we had diabolical treatment due to lack of understanding that our children had serious autoimmune disease, and the chance to take a simple throat swab in casualty, by a doctor was missed, leaving us exposed to bullying over lack of school sickness notes, when the children were seen by a more professional colleague they turned out have scarlet fever!

So, having worked for years both locally and with London hospitals to put our care back on track which it has been, it is sad to once again find myself having to criticize what is probably a hard working and over stretched facility. I had been so pleased to write my previous one,

We came the Saturday before last as my son had a sore foot, he has an underlying autoimmune condition, causing daily chronic and at time severe migraines, coupled with terrible fatigue,My son had a lump on the bone on top of his foot, and his foot hurt. As i work for a charity regarding his underlying autoimmune condition, plus have this myself, also many other relatives, we are aware of the common place of having metatarsal stress fractures, fractures which do not show up straight away on an x ray, and are often missed, requiring an expert orthopedic eye and also an MRI. We duly returned as requested last Wednesday for follow up, and provided a medical paper showing this very syndrome and it's association with metatarsal fractures. This to be helpful, rather than to be knowing best! My son misses school and is part time on account of his illness, and despite his straight A's... to have yet something else holding him back is difficult. I phoned PALS today, and found it to be a mere sign posting service, nothing was sorted, just a call back to say his MRI is on 24th May, this is a long way off for a child already ill, becoming even more fatigued on crutches, let alone something being missed that perhaps should be sorted more efficient. As said above, I am reluctantly complaining here, as our general paediatric care these days at the hospital, is modern, kind and efficient and for that we are more than grateful. I am now left ringing a charity in London who keep an eye on all our medical care in East Anglia due to some very very poor mistakes made years back regarding myself and our children. A relative of mine had a similar injury which was missed, and this caused months or problems.

Very disappointed that a young child like this is being assessed so slowly. Not good enough
