"Cancer surgery treatment "

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham / Clinical oncology

(as a relative),

My father has to have a major operation to remove both bowel & liver cancer.

He has had no treatment since the 22nd Feb, he got an operation date for late April which was cancelled at 10. 15am after arriving there at 7am, then another operation date for mid May cancelled at 15. 15pm after arriving at 7am as he is not from Birmingham he has to leave home at 5am.

Now the operation rescheduled for the middle of June, by this time his cancer may not be operable, that's if its not cancelled again.

My father has worked all his life, served 22 yrs in the British army & he deserves to be treated.

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO CANCER PATIENTS.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your father’s experience at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

We welcome all feedback and would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience.

We are really sorry to hear that your father’s operation has been delayed in this way and can understand the distress and frustration this must have caused at such a difficult time.

We are keen for you to make contact with us directly so that we can look into the specific circumstances of your fathers cancelled operation dates. We will then be in a position to explain the reasons for the cancellations and pass on any available information regarding his planned date for admission.

If you would us to do this please make contact via our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) and they will make the necessary arrangements.

You can contact PALS by phone 0121 371 3280, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk, via the hospital website http://www.uhb.nhs.uk/pals-form.htm or in person by dropping in between 9am – 4.30pm (Mon-Fri) to the PALS office located to the left of the Information Desk in the main entrance of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
