About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

Anything else?

My dad arrived in a and e at 5.30pm on the 30th April after having a motorbike accident. He had a suspected broken foot with an open wound and possible broken wrist. He saw the assessment nurse who said take a seat. At 8.00 pm i had to leave and asked how long it would be before he saw a doctor, to which they said 1 more and he will be next. At 10.30pm had a phone call to say he had collapsed and could i come back. He had fainted from pain and possible dehydration. Had xray which proved wrist broken in 2 places and foot in 3 places. He had to be admitted for operation. I asked at 12.15am what was going on and was told abruptly that we were waiting for a bed. Dad was taken to ward at 2.45am. 9 hours after arriving. When he got to ward there was 1 man in 6 bed room? Disgusting treatment. Had been told by doctor that they were using a new system and it wasnt working. Quite obvious. This department needs a major investigation.
