"Lister Hospital"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

My father who suffers from dementia was admitted with a urine infection and dehydration and yet was left for 3 hours in A&E without a drink.

He was moved three times in his 3 week stay in the hospital, there was no continuity of care.

I watched as the tea lady came round and offered drinks - only the patient capable of asking for one (the other three had dementia) actually got one.

We took food in every day as we were concerned no-one was feeding him properly.

He left with very serious bedsores as the staff did not turn him.

Just an awful awful place.

Having seen that your father's experience related to December 2012, we were really concerned to read your feedback.

Over the last two years, so much has been done at the Trust to improve our care for those with dementia, be they in A&E or on our wards. We have dementia champions on all our wards to make sure that those who need extra care and support get it - including around hydration and nutrition. Our bed sore rates have fallen dramatically over the last year.

But your experience shows that this did not happen for your father, which is both disappointing and frustrating - especially since it has left you with such a poor impression of the standards of care at the Lister.

If you have not done so already, please will you make a formal complaint by contacting us on generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net? At the very least, you and your father deserve for his care to be investigated thoroughly. We hope that you give us that chance.
