I went to Sonning ward. I was having a full mastectomy. I was very nervous and had to fight my feelings knowing the surgeon was gong to remove my breast. I had no pre med.

After the operation there was no care. The drains were taken out and the cavity immediately filled with fluid. I was told by a doctor I would be taken to theatre to put drains back in that night. Throughout the night and the next day I was told by different doctors and nurses I would be taken to theatre soon and wasn't allowed to eat or drink for ages. Eventually a surgeon came to me in the ward and told me she would do the procedure on the ward as theatres were busy. She asked my daughter if she wanted to watch! Random. My daughter stayed not to watch but to be with me. The nurse attending had no idea What was require of her, not suprising as if was obviously a procedure that should be done in theatre. I was going through hell, I then heard the surgeon say to the nurse and I quote "I wouldn't let anyone do this to me if i wasnt under anesthetic'. I have witnesses. She put pressure bandages on then left. I was crying in pain as no pain relief had been offered. I called for the nurse and asked for morphine, after this was administerd my daughter stayed with me me until I fell asleep.

Later a different doctor was doing a different procedure, realised she hadn't got something and shouted at my daughter to go and fetch it. Two minutes after her return the doc shouted again, 'where is it' my daughter replied the nurse said she was coming.

The next morning another doctor came, ripped off the pressure bandage saying if was totally wrong. The fluid came straight back.

They couldn't even put a canula in. I said at the time 'i think its in the muscle' no no its fine I was told. Hours later when my arm was very swollen and black and blue they took it out.

Do not have surgery at rbh.
