"Head injury"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

My wife fell on a street in Loughborough injuring her head causing a large heavily bleeding gash to her forehead. An ambulance was called and a paramedic arrived extremely quickly followed by an ambulance all treatment was very good and efficient. Arrived at LRI A & E 30 minute wait with ambulance crew sent into minor injury clinic at 11.30pm at 1.30 nurse asked if she had been seen by doctor answer NO. at 1.55am she was moved into major clinic as minor was closing. At around 5.30am seen by a doctor who arranged X Ray of wound, returned to Major clinic. At 6.30 sent for a second X ray to view for any eye socket damage. Returned and at about 7am wounds glued by junior nurse. Only 3 occasions were obs carried out. Last one about 6.15am. When I queried delays Nurse at Major clinic station sais everybody was seen in time order. There seem little acccount taken of the type of injury or condition.

Major/minor clinic seemed chaotic with no obvious order and no information to patient as to what was about to happen.

We finally left there at 07.15 having arrived 8 hours before. we were told it was a relatively quiet evening, really!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. We are very sorry to hear that you and your partner feel dissatisfied with your experience in our A&E department. We certainly try to ensure all patients are seen in a timely manner and would like to provide specific feedback about your experience to you. We highly value all feedback, good and bad, as this allows us to continually improve our services so we request that you send you wife’s full name, address and date of birth to amanda.mcdonald@uhl-tr.nhs.uk who will arrange for an appropriate person to review this for you. Thank you CBU Manager for Emergency Care
