About: Colchester General Hospital

Anything else?

I must say that I was very, very angry and frustrated at the treatment I received last night (07.05.13) into this morning (08.05.13). I arrived at the A & E at approx 9.20pm to be told that, although the notice board stated a 3 hour wait, in was in fact more like 4 - 5. On a Tuesday night!! I waitde for over 1 and a half hours before I was seen by one nurse who assessed the situation and asked me to wait out in the waiting room for a doctor to see me. Another hour and a half later and I was seen by a Doctor who told me I needed a Tetanus injection and a small dressing on my wound, and again asked me to go back out to the waiting rooom. After a further hour and a half I had to speak to the Receptionist to ask her when I would be seen again. She spoke to another Doctor who did not know anything about me. Finally the first nurse I saw came out and stated that the Doctor had put my form in the wrong tray and as such it was assumed that I had been treated and gone home. He took me through to dress my wound and to give me the Tetanus injection which took all of two minutes. All in all I spent five hours in the waiting room which I think is totally disgusting. Everybody around me had been and gone but I was stuck there all that time.

I finally arrive back home in Clacton at 3am, very tired, frustrated and extremely annoyed with the lack of concern I received, and at the shoddy attitude of the Doctor.

I apologise you’ve not had a good patient experience. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. We would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully and to apologise in person. If you are willing I would appreciate it if I could ask the matron to contact you. Could you email me using the reference "Comment on Accident and emergency services at RDEE4-Colchester General Hospital at 08/05/2013" please? Many thanks -- Paul Searle, Head of Communications Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust info@colchesterhospital.nhs.uk
