"Florence Knightingale nurses in recovery"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

Anything else?

After my shoulder reversal operation 23rd April 2013 I spent from around 11am until 2030 hrs in recovery and was awake all the time, and able to see all that was going on and I can only say that the staff in this area must have been trained by Florence Knightingale her self. this is the fith time I have had operations done on my shoulder but the only time I remained in the recovery room for any amount of time, amd i can say it was the best time I have ever spent in the hospital, I would have liked to remain in this area for my complete stay but that is of course is not possible, when they eventually took me to the ward I offered to pay them to take me back, they thought I was joking. I can only really say about the staff that looked after me but I cant assume that the rest were any different, they were just fantastic, although I had a problem with my operation wound for most of the day as it would not stop ousing blood, the staff were so freindly, helpful and efficient I just could not believe it, I felt like royalty. The Royal Surrey Hospital should be proud of it's recovery room staff what a fantastic team, although I was having problems with my wound I did not mind as I was aware I could not have been better looked after antwhere else. I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff in the recovery room and especially those who took personal care of me for making my stay in recovery so memorable and doing a fantastic job, I miss you all, well done.

Saying this the staff on the Ewhurst after a bit of a let down start were very good, by this I mean I was put into the 2 bedroom room number 7 which I can only describe as Mr Grumpies room, for the first hour all I got was Mr grumpy moaning he had been there half an hour and had not seen anyone from the ward, which I think he must have slept through the first 20 mins as he has a drip set up, table with a water jug and cup on it and a help cord on his bed which is everything I did not have for the first hour, I was awake and had not seen anyone from the ward until Mr Grumpy used his help button just to be rude to the member of staff that had turned up in response to his alarm, and accused the nursing staff of not treating him to the standards of the recovery room beacuse of his age of 83, at the time I could not believe what the recovery staff had done to me especially with Mr Grumpy, but things did change and once old Grumpy had settled down the that on the ward which I saw were very good and did a good job of looking after both Mr Grumpy and myself, the staff were good but I had a little trouble understanding them at times, one young girl that impressed me most on the ward brought me my Thursday lunchay that really did impress me, she was very young and just handing out the meals but she noticed I only had the use of one arm, and with one big pleaseant smile asked if she could butter my roll and cut it up for me without even being asked, well done. And thank you all
