An update on my last posting.

I am stressed and at a loss to understand why it takes longer than 6 weeks to organise a theatre date and two surgeons to perform one op? although I think I do know in this case what went wrong - it was left to the last minute by the organising admin advocate which means my op is now 3 weeks later than the date given by my consultant. Knowing how QA admin works (which it doesn't - in any dept) my husband & I began calling for my confirmed OP date 3 weeks prior to the end of April (given date by cons). We first called my advocate on a Thursday, but she was busy and was told she would call back, we heard nothing so Monday we call again to be told she has gone on holiday for a week! we checked with the waiting list team assuming she would pass onto them in her absence but my name was not on their agendas and neither did they know that my advocate (their manager) was dealing with my case. A week later WE call & speak to my advocate (no apology for not calling back) a heads up date of 14 or 15th May is mentioned? I ask what wrong with the end of April as planned and I'm told how they have to get a theatre slot and two surgeons blah blah. After a week of promised phone calls that never came (no surprise there) we were finally told that the 20th May was the soonest date they could offer. needless to say I am very upset as the recovery from my surgery is months and means we will probably have to cancel our holiday booked for October (which admin knew about) - which is our April holiday that we had to cancel because the dates were changed again previously by QA for this op! so cheers for that...

Everyone I know who has been to QA has encountered a difficulty with appt's & communication and 90% of it is clearly down to admin. These Admin cock-ups effect the consultants too.
