This was the first time I have ever been admitted to hospital so was somewhat apprehensive, as my condition was deemed perhaps too dangerous for surgical intervention. My condition had worsened and no drugs etc could improve my situation. My local consultants decided I should opt for surgery and so I was referred to the Bromton. I was interviewes locally by my surgeon for suitability and agreed for him to proceed. Next step a day of tests at the centre followed by a day of seminars, all extremely efficient and informative. My appointment for surgery followed pretty swiftly and I was admitted on 24 April. The surgeons explained the plan of procedures and advised me that the pericardiectomy would consist of a window to remove the calcification. And so there was no turning back! I went down for surgery on the 25th. I next remember being awoken in HDU with my wife beside me! 26th to 28th were spent in HDU and then to general ward. I made such good progress, I was discharged on Tuesday the 30th. Apart from minor soreness, all of my pre op conditions have gone or are going! This hospital and team have worked a miracle for me and I am sure they are doing it for many more. I actually went back to the office on Wednesday and will return to work next Tuesday for a few days before having a week off. My thanks again to everyone at The Brompton.
