"Needs a major shake up"

About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital

Anything else?

Admitted via a&e through nhs direct instructions, when I told triage nurse she looked at me like I shouldn't of bothered attending, make me feel like time waster. Triage area is very indiscreet.

When in a&e couldn't really fault care, was moved to aau. All ok there for busy ward. The only fault I have is wasn't offered anything to eat or drink so had to ask on aau 5hrs later. I then got woken about 11pm to be told to pack my things as I was being moved to another ward.

Finally get moved after midnight to spruce ward.

Spruce is from what I saw a geriatric ward, I was placed in a bay with 4 very elderly ladies. Each calling out for a nurse overnight but unable to press their buzzers themselves so were just shouting out. The bays have doors which are closed so no one could hear them shouting so I acted as their buzzer. The cleanliness was disgraceful, on admission I attempted the loo but faeces smeared all over seat and was told I couldn't use loo across the hall as it was for staff even though it wasn't labeled.

Toilet was not cleaned until lunchtime and by which time was heavily soiled again by nurse assisted patient - why nurses couldn't just check loo was clean for another user.

I was there for 3 days, my bed was never changed or made. My bay was never mopped nor cleaned. The cleaner emptied bins but that was all. I had tea stains on my trolley left from another patient as I don't drink tea.

Bells were never placed in reach of the elderly ladies and if they were, they were left ringing for 45 mins+ one lady was left in loo for 35 mins.

Staff did what they could but had no time for anyone. Didn't find it professional the tea trolley being raided for food by some staff. No staff seemed to know what was going on, you never got a nurse presence on the ward, you never saw one unless they were doing drugs. Never saw a doctor until after lunch which then wasted the day as if they ordered scans etc, you knew they wouldn't happen until next day due to their late rounds.

I asked to be moved somewhere quieter to be told I couldn't and I had genuine medical need.

Food was alright, nothing to write home about.

On discharge, had to wait 4hrs for meds, its shocking.

Pointless complaining to this hospital as I have done on previous occasions, they sweep it under the carpet and make you feel inadequate for airing your views.
