About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

My understanding of the TRAQs system was that I would be given choices of hospital and consultant. However, when contacted by TRAQs, I was not given any choice. Merely offered an appointment at a certain hospital with an unnamed consultant.

It was only because I queried this that I was told that I would have to research on Dr Foster health website and then request a particular consultant and hospital.

When I had chosen a consultant I was told that I would only request a hospital and they would give me a time and perhaps the name of the consultant.

The consultant offered was on page 9 of the list of consultants on Dr Foster and did not merit a classification on the 3 best fit indicator. I had to persist to get the consultant of my choice.

I must point out that the staff were at all times very courteous.

Thank you for providing feedback following your recent referral via TRAQS.

I am sorry to hear that your experience was not a positive one. TRAQS rely upon the referring GP to provide any necessary information. The information provided will determine to a certain degree the Choices of provider you are offered. Not all hospitals have the facility to allow TRAQS to book into a specific consultants clinic. However, wherever possible to endeavour to give patient their Choice of consultant. If this is not possible it may be because a number of consultants see patients in a specific clinic.

Dr Foster is a useful aid to enable patients to research the choices available to them you can also search using NHS Choices.
