"My wife was a patient for day ..."

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My wife was a patient for day surgery today for a procedure that she has had twice before using Private Medical Insurance at a local private hospital. Her treatment at QEQM from pre-assessment to leaving the Day Surgery Ward was far and away better than the private sector. We found that the nurse in the pre-assessment was more thorough, the ward staff were most pleasant, friendly and caring. Also, the anaesthetist and surgeon both had time to listen and digest my wife's history . First Class! Thank You.

What could be improved

Nothing could be faulted during this visit.

Our family's experience of this Hospital, where my father in law spent his last days, in Bishopstone Ward, my mother has been a patient and I have had treatment, has always been positive. One has to make allowances for Staff being run off their feet and the occasional wait after a request has been made. Overall the staff are excellent, and the cleanliness of the hospital is obvious. Overcrowding in some wards is an issue, as is mixed sex wards, but these are problems that need sorting at Trust level. Your local Hospital is doing it's best for the patients, while juggling resource. I wonder how many of those who complain are contributing nothing at all to the system, but living off the backs of those who do? We are lucky to have the QEQM!
