About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

on Monday 16th June2008 i has breast cancer surgery at the QEQM at Margate i was asked to check in at the Cheerful Sparrows ward at 7am which i did i was allocated a bed and my pre-op checks were made whilst i was waiting to go down to surgery i was shocked and appaulled at the actions of 2 domestics employed by the trust. i observed the lack of care they have for their job and just mopped a dry mop over the floor then a wet mop without moving any chairs tables or beds they only lightly cleaned around the open spaces they could see. They then decided to have a little chat for about 10minutes or so at the end of my bed having no respect that i was in fact going to have life saving surgery very shortly i heard them moaning about their supervisor and how she had asked one of them to make the early morning teas for the in patients and they were saying it was not their job and that they were finishing at 10am even one of the domestics husbands called into the ward for a chat after he left the domestics decided to do a little more they flitted a duster along the curtain rails and they dusted my light above my bed showering it in dust a half hour later i went down to surgery on the same bed.so much to patient care. these women had no respect for me or the other patients in the ward that morning i would you like to investigate this. the ward was not properly cleaned at all. it was a disgrace and shameful they washed the wet dirty mop head in the same sink the nurses used to wash their hands these women and the contractors need to be sacked surely the threat of CDiff and Msra are bad enough without people like this cleaning our hospital wards I would like to say the medical staff were very good to me and i am at home recovering now

What could be improved

More check on domestic staff give the matron more authority to say something and to make sure gossiping domestic staff should be seen and not heard by patients it was upsetting
