What I liked
i was taken into the william harvey on wed 7th nov 07. i was due to have a scan to tell me whether my baby was in good health or not. The scan did unfortunatley confirm my worst fears, I. had suffered an incomplete miscarriage. After finding this out i was more or less immediatley placed in the kennington ward as i had to have an op to remove the dead feotus from my womb. The staff were relatively kind and helpful and the procedure was done on the same day i went in. However there was one memeber of staff who was absolutley amazing. They were so understanding and made me feel completely at ease, even though obviously i was going through and extremely traumatic time. They were the last person i saw before i was knocked out and first when i came round. Basically they made me feel incredibly at ease in which was one of the scariest things i have ever been through. Thanks to everyone who made that awful day so much easier to cope with.
What could be improved
i was advised to visit the a&e dept by my midwife on sat 3rd nov as i was bleeding quite heavily. after waiting for 3 hours i was eventually seen by a doctor, who although explained what was happening, said i would have to wait 4 days for a scan, which was like asking me to wait an eternity, i was sent home. At 1 o clock monday morning i had to visit the a&e again with crippling stomach cramps, along with the bleeding and now nausea. After waiting 10 mins at reception before someone could take any details i was then again asked to wait until i could be seen.I waited for another hour in excrutiating pain before i was told i would have to deal with the pain and sent home again. The pain went on for 3 more days. I found having to wait 4 days before i was told whether my baby was dead or alive disgusting. Not only did it put an enormous strain on me physically but also mentally. I would also like to point out that people do have miscarriages during the weekend so not being able to have a scan when i was initially taken in because the sonogram was only operational weekdays is equally disturbing. As you can probably understand this was an very awful time in my life and i found the first half of my experience with you only made the whole situation alot worse. It scares me to think how many expectant mothers are forced to go through this awful treatment before they recieve the treatment they deserve.
