"Poor experience at Leigh Walk-In Centre "

About: Leigh Health Centre / Leigh walk-in centre

(as the patient),

Arrived at Leigh Walk In Centre and was met by a very polite, friendly and cheerful receptionist.

I waited for approx 15 minutes to be triaged. However, the nurse did not even make eye contact and typed in to a computer as I explained my situation. I had been bitten by a dog the night before and was in some pain which was manageable but I really had attended in the hope that I could have a tetanus injection as I was unsure of my status.

I was told (without any eye contact) that I could not have a tetanus injection as they did not have any in stock. I was given no explanation for this. I could however wait 3 hours to see a doctor and be prescribed antibiotics.

The nurse did not look up from the computer except to glance briefly at the bite. I decided not to wait and make an appointment to see my GP instead.

I am sure that the nurses are busy, but surely this is something that would have taken minutes during triage, dealt with and moved on to the next patient.

Poor communication from the nurse. I am sorry to say that but I am also a nurse and expect better.
