"Not very much. I was impressed ..."

About: The Maidstone Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Not very much. I was impressed by the student nurse, and she seemed interested and caring. I hope she doesn`t follow the example of her "role models", the qualified staff, most of whom were off-hand and seemingly disinterested. I also liked the anaesthetist, who was cheerful and chatty and seemed to know what she was doing. ( A rarity in my experience at Maidstone Hospital.)

What could be improved

I was very disappointed with the standard of care at Maidstone Hospital. The ward was dirty, staff seems unaware of even the most basic uinfection control issues. i.e. handling a prescription card immediately after handling a urine bottle and without even taking off the disposable gloves in between. The only staff that seemed interested in my well-being were the student nurse and the porters, who seemed more caring that the so called professional staff. The only thing that seemed to interest them was getting you off the ward as quickly as posssible, no doubt so that they could meet some target or other. It also seemed that the lady serving the meals was in charge of the ward, and deciding who should have what and when ?????, and almost arguing with the other staff as to who was or wasn`t Nil by Mouth.
