What could be improved

A great deal of improvement is needed in communication between staff and in the attitude of nurses. My husband was admitted to the hospital in June 2008, arriving at A&E by ambulance called by our GP. It was 5 hours before he saw a doctor, during which time his condition was deteriorating. He spent 23 hours in the Acute Admissions Unit (where the level of nursing care was minimal - e.g. one dose of drugs was 'forgotten'. When I became very anxious and complained strongly to the Bed Manager, 2 doctors arrived at his bed very quickly and the consultant arrived within 10 minutes. Do you have to complain to get attention in this hospital? What would happen if the patient is alone? A truly dreadful experience in A&E, and little better on Ward 10.
