"Concerns over care"

My daughter is actually in this hospital at present. She is 19, has Diabetes and is currently in hospital suffering from a serious blood infection . She was diagnosed with Diabetes at 3 and we have been in and out of different hospitals all her life; I can honestly say I have never experienced such erratic care as I have seen here for the past 7 days. I have on numerous occasions wanted to take her away from this hospital and bring her to our local General Hospital, as I feared for her health and care.

She visited a GP who called through to A&E and told them to expect her. she sat in the waiting room for 2hrs before she was seen and didn't receive any treatment at all for 4.5 hrs finally when they realised just how sick she was (I had been told by a Dr she was just a bit dehydrated and needed a bit of fluid and could then go home) they were playing catch up as she had dramatically deteriorated into a very severe state and she was moved to the major care unit.

She was then moved to AMU where they mixed up a urine sample with another Diabetic and if not for a wonderful Dr who had also dealt with her in major unit who insisted over and over again to retest another urine sample, she would have been given the wrong treatment.

She was finally moved to OUSTERLY 2 where she is now.

My daughter is a Vegetarian which seems to have caused them great confusion. She has been given food containing meat as they couldn't understand that lamb was meat. She was offered no replacement meal. This happened 3 times.

She was asked by an HCA to help her make her bed. she visibly had many tubes coming from both hands and arms but still he let her help make the bed. When we complained to the nurse she said he must have been joking( I think not as he let her make the bed).

She was taken of her insulin pump so she could go to the toilet; after her return she waited for nearly an hour before someone came to attach her again. This caused her blood sugar level to rise to18 which seemed to confuse them as they couldn't understand why it had got so high.

She is on IV antibiotics and it took 4.5 hrs for it to go through one day, we told them it was not working properly a nurse finally came in fiddled with it for a bit and said she would have to go and get something to sort it out we waited and waited and then saw her pushing a trolley around.

Yesterday they needed to take more blood; my daughter has had a lot of needles put in her this past week and is understandably distressed. Apparently the only Dr on in the whole of the hospital was so rude and angry with her distress, telling her he deals with babies that are better than her and angrily stated he would not be coming back.

I have to say that there have also had some wonderful angel like Doctors, Nurses and HCA's that have cared for her and am grateful to them for getting her better.
