About: Sandwell General Hospital

Anything else?

Over crowding in ward, beds too close together, more likely to catch infections, don't like the idea of O.A..P being in same ward as a young person. That was very depressing for me,especially when this old ladies scream all night and I was unable to get any sleep. Staff shortages, they don't attrend to your needs quickly,dr's only go by whats written on charts by the nurses and don't communicate with paitent. Also giving the treatment is delayed,I had severe infection, high heart rate and ended up in I.C.U this could have been prevented. Parents not informed of my progress.People get more sick being in hospital. Not ot mention wards closed due to outbreak of diah and vomiting bug.

I am sorry about your experience. Young people are separated from adults in our wards, and we strive to separate by gender. Beyond that, we organise our wards based on clinical need. At Sandwell from October this year all of the ward bays will have doors on them which should help to reduce some disruption and certainly to cut the number of beds closed with D&V. Our aim is to not have patients moving in and out of most of our wards overnight but instead to have that movement concentrated in one or two wards. We are working to reorganise our teams with that in mind but it will take some months to make that happen. Toby Lewis, Chief Executive
