My elderly 90 year old mother was recently discharged from East Surrey Hospital ---excellent care on the ward.
As we are all living longer and have an ageing population eyesight fails etc --so why are discharge notices issued to patients with drug details in small print --- the pharmacy give the information verbally but the patient has forgotten by the time they have arrived home also the sticker on the medication is far too small.
The patient needs to know how and when to take the relevant medication at their leisure and to also understand what they are taking and why. So we land up with patients possibly taking their medication at the wrong time or in some cases not at all. So why not supply the information in LARGE PRINT?
Drugs companies are notorious for providing info on side effects etc in the smallest possible print and should be held to account, but I think hospitals in general should begin to show the way so please remember it may seem a million miles away sooner or later we will become elderly.
