"Appalling treatment of 71 year old gentleman."

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital

Anything else?

This gentleman is 71 years of age. he struggles to walk, and has mild learning difficulties.

Was taken to hospital by an emergency ambulance due to severe warfarin bleed.(Nasal)

Firstly the ambulance staff.

Not prepared to take any notice when we were trying to explain he struggled to walk or about his learning difficulties. Instead they just barked orders at him to hurry up! hurry up!. Ignorant, rude and showed little regard or respect.

At the hospital he was left to sit in triage, for two and a half hours pouring with blood, and coughing up large clots. We had to constantly run around asking for more gauze to try and stem the bleeding. This was very distressing for this gentleman. After the two and a half hours and enough moaning from myself, they finally saw fit to take him into a cubicle.

There,he was was confronted by Dr obnoxious. He too had little interest in the learning disability and orders this gentlemen on to the gurney, saying impatiently Sit up! Sit up! .

Without bothering to explain, the Dr and a colleague began to spray liquid up his nose, then proceeded to insert large nasal tampons. Not too carefully I hasten to add ,which made our gentleman swear (through the shock and pain) "Don't swear at me" the Dr said, "I will not tolerate it".(perhaps he should have listened to us about the learning difficulties). This was then swiftly followed by injecting more liquid into the tampons. This final action made this particular gentleman cough as the liquid entered his throat. the Dr Complained loudly "you spat at me," Surely if the Dr had bothered to explain what he was doing, and wore a visor whilst working so close to somebody's face this could have been avoided.

Thankfully he was soon moved to ward 8c. just the one complaint there. Our gentleman who struggles to walk was afraid of falling on the slippery looking floor, and asked a nurse to help him back to his bed. Only to be told "just get moving, its only over there"

Thankfully he is back home now, around caring people.

One thing for sure, from now on I will be recording omn camera every visit I have to make to this pit of despair.
