"I had a natural waterbirth after ..."

About: Heatherwood Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had a natural waterbirth after induction. The staff did everything to help me have the birth I wanted and complications later on lead to an emergency situation which was handled very calmly and I felt I was in the best hands possible.Antenatal and postnatal treatment was much better than the Royal Berks.I got excellent support and encouragement and felt well informed at all times. I recomend it to any mum with an uncomplicated pregnancy.

What could be improved

I had to be transferred after blood loss due to lack of a well stocked blood bank, this was a real shame.I also felt it was a little risky as the ambulance trip was longer than I ever expected.I have heard rumours Heatherwood may close, more needs to be done to encourage mums to give birth there, the Royal Berks is too busy. Most people I speak to don't even know about Heatherwood as a place to give birth at.
