Like one of the other reviewers I have also visited the gynecology department due to infertility, and find being forced to sit in a waiting room of expectant mothers and fathers very difficult. It seems to me only sensible that the two departments would have seperate waiting rooms, and would think it would appear so to anyone else if whoever manages the hospital actually took a moment to consider it. The waiting time in this department is also entirely unacceptable, I have waited up to two hours, for an appointment that took less than five minutes.I have found the Drs to be kind, although seemingly completely overworked and unaware of any information about my case - often reading through the notes in front of me and asking me the same questions on every visit, and yet being surprised by the answer.

The worst thing about the treatment here though is the waiting time before I was given any help! I had been trying to get pregnant for 12 months when my GP referred me to the hospital. On my first appointment I was seen by a student Dr who was completely insensitive to my concerns about infertility and told me that she wouldn't do anything until I had been trying at least 18 months to 2 years. This member of staff made me feel stupid for bothering the hospital in the first place, and I was left feeling guilty for wasting their time. After waiting another 6 months (18 months of trying in total) I was finally allowed a scan of my ovaries to confirm what my GP and I had suspected for over a year, that I have PCOS. It then took the hosptial another 8 months before admitting me for minor surgery to treat this. After one morning in hospital I was released, I was called the next day to ensure that I didn't have any post surgical problems and didnt hear from the gynecology department again, There was absolutely no follow up, and I wasn't given any information as to how long I should wait before seeing the effects of the surgery, or how much time I should leave before contacting the consultant and his team again. After 5 months I contacted my GP who referred me back to the gynecology department, I was then forced to wait 3 months for an appointment, then was told to have blood tests which had to be spaced out and therefore took another 2 months. When I returned to the hosiptal after my blood tests the consultant I saw was incredulous as to why I hadnt seen him in the 8 months since my surgery and seemed to blame me for this situation!
