"The staff are lovely and they have been so helpful"

About: Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Ward 1, Bexley Wing. When you first come into you don't take everything I. e meal times, what you can have etc.. The staff are lovely and they have been so helpful with one and another if you need to talk they will listen.

Bad points - not having your own key so you have to ask people to lock your door all the time so you feel you can only go in your room limited so not wasting time. Also the activities they do are really good but it changes all the time! Confusing!

They have been helpful with me to do with diet and exercise and I attend the gym. Patrick is really helpful and explains things better than if you got to gyms in the community! But I'm going to get into a routine when out.

The services that are available out there are good but for me I've always been a worker and need to get back to work ASAP! The ward is cheerful especially the lounge after having the carpet replaced! I know with all NHS wards etc money is tight. But I think on the whole, my experience here has been very good. Food is varied but with having set menu's you don't like what is is, sometimes it is a problem to get something else. But I am pleased with the experience and help I'm getting.

Hi there,

I would firstly like to offer my sincere apologies for the delay in the response to your post; this was due to it initially being tagged with St James’s Hospital and not our Trust. We were only made aware of your posting very recently.

I really appreciate that you took the time to share your opinion and experience of the care and treatment you received during your stay on the ward. We are always grateful for feedback from people in order to continuously improve our service.

I am pleased that you found the ward environment helpful in your recovery and that you found staff helpful and approachable when you needed someone to talk to and to listen to you. Treating people with dignity and respect is one of our core values that we aim to demonstrate every day, so I'm pleased to hear that you feel this was reflected in your admission.

I will also pass on your comments to Patrick in the gym as I am sure he will appreciate the very positive feedback.

I am sorry that you felt that not having your own key to your bedroom impacted on the time you spent in your room. Unfortunately keys go missing from time to time when not handed back in, therefore affecting the next person coming into the room. However this is not normal practice, and we now have a system in place to avoid this happening.

I am also aware the menu system for the in-patient service can cause issues sometimes where there may be something more appealing on the day than what you chose the night before. This is something we are continuously trying to address and we try to strike a balance in order to meet everyone’s needs at mealtimes.

I will be sure to pass on all your comments to the team on the ward during our staff meeting. I wish you all the best in your continued recovery and I hope you're now much closer to your goal of getting back to work.

Take care,

Alison Quarry
