About: St Mary's NHS Treatment Centre (Portsmouth)

Anything else?

Visited here with my 5 month old baby boy with breathing difficulties. Was seen by a nurse and was told someone else would see us. Was taken to what you would expect to be a doctor but after seeing his badge just another nurse. This whole area was treating him like a doctor which is rather confusing set up. He told us he was not concerned about our son and then two minutes later for no reason at all, was shouting left right and centre get this child to resus and call a 999 ambulance, as the ambulance pointed out it was there closing time. Went to QA all was fine and no need for ambulance etc. will not be visiting here again.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the care received for your 5 months baby boy. The service at the Minor Injury and Minor Illness unit is nurse led with highly experienced nurse practitioners. On every shift there is a Senior nurse practitioner who is the Nurse in charge. The Senior nurse practitioner would have had concerns to deem it necessary to place your child in the resuscitation room. It is normal protocol to call an ambulance for a young child with breathing difficulties if the clinician assesses that the care required is in a hospital environment. The Treatment centre service is for minor injury and minor illness. We are pleased to hear that your child required no further treatment. Kind regards Deb Jeavons-Fellows Operations Manager
