18/4/13 – 1. 30pm
I suffered a “potentially life-threatening” head injury after my car collided with a lorry at Kings Nympton last weekn. Police closed the road in Kings Nympton while emergency services dealt with the crash. I suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance. Fire crews from Chulmleigh and South Molton attended the crash scene and used hydraulic cutting equipment to release me from the car.
I understand that Martin Davis, Commander Control, said that both crews worked closely with air ambulance and land ambulance personnel to achieve a time effective casualty rescue and that, as they were leaving, the air ambulance crews said to the fire crews “great job” which he said was fantastic to hear. It’s quite rewarding to hear that. ”
The severe impact crash resulted in a lot of debris on the road, including broken pallets from the delivery lorry.
Emergency services said both vehicles were heavily damaged.
The road was closed while the debris was cleared and the vehicles recovered. It was reopened by 6. 15pm.
I would very much like to thank, The Lady who was wiping the blood from my brow and staying with me reassuring me that everything was alright, and keeping me concious,. She was with me as soon as I regained conciousness and was determined not to leave me alone. I was terrified, and the lady who was on the phone to a couple of the emergency services giving them regular updates. Without these women I would have been alone, more terrified that I will never see my wife and children/Grandchildren again because I was trapped in a crushed car, bleeding from the head, not knowing if I would live or die.
I also want to thank for the quick, friendly and professional services: -
GROUND AMBULANCE CREW
AIR AMBULANCE CREW ( KATE & NIGEL & PILOT )
FIRE CREWS FROM CHULMLIEGH & SOUTH MOLTON

I am lucky to be alive and won`t forget all these people helped me stay that way.
Thank You.
