"Misdiagnosis three times"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

Anything else?

I visited A&E three as a result of a traumatic injury sustained in a fall. Despite being in obvious pain I had to wait over four hours on each occasion to be seen by a doctor. The first time I was x-rayed and was told there was nothing on the scan; I found out subsequently at another hospital that this was entirely due to the wrong area being x-rayed. The second time the doctor I saw was very dismissive and made me feel that I taking up his valuable time with a minor problem. The third time the doctor said he would refer me to a specialised department, this never happened. Nearly a year after my fall I finally had major surgery at another hospital, the surgeon concerned said it was the most acute injury of it's kind he had seen in his 30 year career. I am now only 50% recovered and will never regain my former mobility. Whether the outcome would have been different for me if the three different doctors at A&E had followed the BMJ guidelines set down for this type of injury I don't know. I think it is fair to comment that just because someone isn't screaming and making a terrible fuss doesn't mean they shouldn't be taken seriously and the proper diagnostic tests carried out, or indeed treated with a little humanity. I for one will never willingly go to Arrowe Park hospital again, nor will my children or husband, friends and other relatives, although it is further to go we have been very pleased with the standard of care we have had at the Royal Liverpool and Alder Hey.
