"Putting our minds at ease"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

Anything else?

My partner and I were very distressed at becoming pregnant only to find that on the 12 week scan of the baby there were abnormalities with the foetus. A high NT level of 7mm ment a high chance of chromosome disorder and after speaking with the specialist we were told our baby may not make it to full term. We were heart broken and offered tests to confirm if the foetus had a disorder. We made a hard decision to have a CVS test but at the last minute changed our minds. We were so confused with what the right decision was as the tests came with a small chance of miscarriage. We were under a specialist's care. She understood how we were feeling and explained fully what could be wrong with the baby and that having the test or not there was no wrong choice and it was our choice to make. We decided not to have any tests and run with the pregnancy. We had many scans and we found out we were having a little girl. Every week was a mile stone in our daughters chances of making it to full term. The specialist made us feel at ease throughout a troubled pregnancy and for that both myself and my partner would like to thank her. Our daughter made full term and when she was born we were told they had noted a very small heart defect. Our daughter Lilley was referred to another Consultant. We could not take Lilley home until he had run some tests to check Lilleys heart and to see it there was any signs of a chromosome disorder like Down's syndrome or Turners syndrome. After a scan And an examination the Consultant was happy to let our daughter come come and he also took some blood to run tests for other disorders. After a couple of weeks we got the results that Lilley had none of the major disorders. We saw the Consultant a couple more times over the first 5 months of Lilleys life. Each time he put both myself and my partner at ease. He explained in great detail what he was testing for and explained it to us so we understood clearly. He also listened to our concerns and worries. I am writing this as today we took Lilley to see Consultant and he was happy to discharge us from his care. Our daughter is perfectly healthy and both myself and my partner even now are still in shock as we had not anticipated such great news this early into our daughters life. Both of us and our daughter would like to say a very big thank you to both Consultants for everything and for being so understanding and fit putting our minds at rest. These are the best doctors I've ever dealt with at the Royal Berkshire Hospital

And are a credit to your hospital

Many thanks from the Harmsworth-Rose family

Thank you for taking the time to let us know how pleased you were with the care that you received from the hospital. We will ensure that your message is passed on to the doctors concerned. It is good to hear that all is now well with Lilley and that she has been discharged from the consultant's care.
