"Nothing"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Nothing

What could be improved

My brother was in having an apendix removed he was left waiting in a corridor on a bed for some time. Once he finally had the operation the ward he was in had blood on the sheets floors and curtains, It was not cleaned during the time he was in there. The food was so disgusting we had to dispose of it ourselve so he could go home and have some real food. The problems with QA are, There are to many cheifs and not enough indians, Cut some of the management and employ more doctors, nurses and cleaners. The building improvements to QA are a joke they cannot keep the hospital clean before improvements let alone after. QA needs someone who can run it properly. In its current situation I would rather be treated in the sewer as I feel these are proberly cleaner

We are very disappointed and can only apologise that you found the conditions at QAH to be unsatisfactory whilst your brother was an inpatient recently. It appears that you were in the hospital whilst there were very large numbers of emergency patients. This may be why your brother was in the corridor for some time. We try very hard to avoid such situations but, sometimes, it can take time for all patients to be allocated a bed. Again, we can only apologise for the delay in your brother's case. The domestic staff and the nurses work hard to maintain cleanliness on the wards and it is disappointing that you observed shortcomings in the standards of cleaning. Usually all rooms are cleaned thoroughly at least once a day with toilets and showers receiving regular checks inbetween. The department also had a regular cleaning audit undertaken by the Matron and any problems should be rectified immediately. It is a shame that you were not able to share your concerns whilst your brother was with us as we could have had the opportunity to rectify the situation. You mention the food was also unacceptable to your brother. Again, if this had been mentioned we could have sent it back and asked for something that your brother would have eaten. Cooking for large numbers is a challenge and sometimes it is impossible to suit all.

When the considerable building work is completed, it will allow us to have most of our services on one site in new, state-of-the-art facilities.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our services - it is only by receiving feedback that we are able to improve.
