"Let down again by QA Portsmouth hospital"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

Anything else?

Oncology referred me for an urgent appointment with Gynaecology around 4th September, I hear nothing so phone to find my referral was lost. After many calls I finally get an appt which results in a hysteroscoy & biopsy on 8 Dec. Results of which were given on Jan 8 and advised a full hysterectomy to be done. Advise going on a golf holiday April 13. Heard nothing so called again and I'm not on the waiting list? I get called 23 Jan to ask if I can come for my op on the 25th, which I do. Unfortunately my womb/uterus is fixed to my colon/bowel. 2 lumps were also discovered so a biopsy is done and told I would need surgery the following week. then told March as lumps benign. we canc our holiday - which I could have gone on after all because the op date was changed again. In Feb I was told end of April, now I am nearing the renewed date I called to check if everything is on target, it has taken 2 weeks to get a response (person dealing with my original phone call went on holiday and didn't tell us or her waiting list team) and oh there's a surprise it's now looking like mid May but not definite as they have to co-ordinate a colorectal surgeon (which I knew about) to join my gynaecologist in theatre - but they have had 6 weeks to organise this? When I mentioned this I was told she could not comment on that ?. I've also made it clear I am not happy and that this again puts my holiday in October in jeopardy (which is the original holiday moved from April) . I'm being told they will try to bring it forward but I am not confident and as a patient I should not have to make several phone calls to make I'm on a waiting list

This is not the only problem I've had - I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago. My op date was set and I was mentally ready, then I received a phone call to say that I had missed a central note injection appt & my op was now canc? I had not received a letter or a text re this appt? a 'Fellow' did my op and missed the tumour, so I had to go through it again 2 months later. 10 days before surgery I fell and broke my ankle. in A&E the doctor told me it was not broken and I could leave, but had not xrayed it - after pushing for an xray it was apparent I had an unstable fracture. A temp cast was put on and Clexane prescribed at a dose of 120mg a day. 2 days later and in agony I notice my ankle is at an angle, we return to A&E and was told the cast was not put on properly and my ankle was straightened under Entinox (I passed out) and replaster me. It was the anaesthetist for my next BC op who showed his concerns when we told him about the Clexane - I should have been on 40mg! I did raise a complaint - A&E took it very seriously and I believe they dealt with it accordingly. Re the breast cancer side of things I was told all my issues (which included my dignity not being considered) are 'just life' and no apology given.

Can you understand why I'm a little apprehensive about returning to QA for further surgery.
