"My husband attended for OP appt ..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My husband attended for OP appt through chooses and book. QA was not first or second choice but eventually offered earliest appt for a minor ear problem. My husband took a half day to attend PM appt in ENT dept on June 17th.Work colleague of husband had to come in on his day off to cover.

I also took a half day to take my husband to overcome parking problem. (Waited on Portsdown Hill)

My husband duely waited and noticed a sign saying the clinic was running late.

Eventually he was told that there was no doctor available to see him in that area. He was then taken to a further waiting area and waited again until he was eventually told that there was no doctor there either that was available to see him! A 40 mile round

trip for nothing and 3 people inconvenienced.

My husband was told that if he didnt hear anything from the hospital within a month to phone up.

What could be improved

The appt was in the afternoon. If there was a problem why was no attempt made to contact my husband to cancel.

This is the least you could have done.

Staff did not give any indication of a problem when my husband booked in.

You need to have more effective communication.

Being taken to another waiting area without staff checking FIRST that there someone available to see him was ludicrous.

Now my husband has lost the choice of going elsewhere as he is no longer in the choose and book system and has no idea when he will be seen but knows it will involve a further 2 trips.

Hope this was a blip and is not indicative of how things usually are.
