"Honley Dental Practice"

About: Kirklees PCT

(as the patient),

I visited the Honley Dental Practice on Monday 8th April 2013 due to chipping a tooth approximately 10 days previously, which caused considerable pain and discomfort. On attending the very plush surgery I was greeted by the receptionist efficiently and seen by the dentist extremely quickly. Unfortunately my positive experience ended at this point.

During my consultation, the dentist asked me what had happened, and I explained I had chipped my tooth and although it had settled down a little I had needed to take some painkillers. The dentist was very abrupt in his response to this and informed me that I ‘should not take drugs for a chipped tooth’! ! ! I was a little stunned at this point but remained polite and allowed the dentist to examine my tooth. During the examination the dentist identified that my tooth was painful in 3 places.

After the examination I was expecting the dentist to explain what he had found, and suggest whether any treatment was necessary. However his appalling attitude continued and he proceeded to advise me that my tooth was sound, and it had only taken him 30 seconds to discover this. He also informed me that I had been booked into a 20 minute appointment slot, which meant he would be left ‘twiddling his thumbs’ for the remaining time! ! !

I tried to offer an explanation that his receptionist had not asked me if I needed a long or short appointment, she had just booked it, and as such, he should have been directing his frustrations and comments to his staff and not me. However because of his arrogance my attempts to be heard were in vein.

As you can imagine I am extremely annoyed by this man’s appalling attitude towards me. He clearly has a very bulling attitude towards his patients and has little understanding of what makes a good clinician.
