"Your staff so caring, compassionate and very hard..."

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

Anything else?

My husband has had 3 inpatient stays recently in different wards and 99% of your staff are absolutely amazing. Caring, compassionate, and very, very hard working. They definitely go the extra mile for patients, doing things which I am sure are not actually part of their own job, but make all the difference to a patient who, temporarilly, is incapable, They are also so helpfull and cheerfull with it. Any hospital which has so many excellent caring staff, at all levels, deserves the highest praise.

I can only say 99% as I watched just one totally disinterested and ineffectual cleaner who, although she mopped the floor, didn't actually manage to remove any of the rubbish and moaned the whole time that she was doing it about the useless ward management.

There was also one sister who came across as hard and uncaring. She, however, was more than made up for by her counterparts on the opposite shifts who could not have been kinder and more understanding.

The only other adverse comment I have is that once patients start to recover from their illnesses boredom is a major problem as the Televisions don't work, the mobile 'phone signal is practically non-existant and their is no mobile shop that visits the wards for newspapers, etc. If I was in a single ward with no-one to talk to, no mobile signal to communicate with family and freinds and not mobile enough to go down to W.H Smiths on the ground floor for a newspaper,as was my husband on his first stay, (unfortunately they don't sell books) I would be depressed after two weeks. He had visitors every day to stimulate him but not all patients are so fortunate.

Thank you for this feedback. The cleaning staff are employed by our partners, Balfour Beatty; we will pass these comments on.

The problem with some of the Tv's is being resolved and mobile phone coverage is now generally available.

The branch of WH Smiths does sell books; no mobile service is provided for newspapers as the contractor (WHS) deemed that this is not cost effective.
